Wishyouweredead:
Another brutal dutch act which I never have heard of before
and I’m glad I did tonight! The music had extremely fast
grindcore parts and was variegated with superb mosh parts. I
found some references to bands like Despised Icon and Ion
Dissonance but with an own sound, so I really would like to
see this band again. I was quite impressed!

LOST KEY AVOND, MIDDELBURG, THE NETHERLANDS, 24-03-2006
Live view by Aron Verbogt
Nadat we
BAR AMERICAN, MIDDELBURG, THE NETHERLANDS, 25-11-2005
On a weary winter night I went off to Middelburg, to a small
pub where a couple of bands were intended to play. Yet, when we arrived (rather
early, strange enough) we were told Cliteater wouldn’t show up because they were
stuck in the massive snowfall and returned home, mission unaccomplished.
Kutschurft were to arrive later that evening as they were heading to a snowy
Zeeland, so at the beginning of the evening only Wishyouweredead were present.
At some point of the evening it became clear that only the pretty local
Wishyouweredead were able to play their set tonight as even Kutschurft decided
to return home, at least their drummer did, the others stayed at a hotel in
Middelburg that night. A sad story of an aggressive nature ruining an evening of
grindcore, hehehe…
So, it was only Wishyouweredead that was
able to present their hulking kind of grindcore, I have seen them one time
before already in Goes on the Vrijbuiter Festival, and on that big stage in a
rather empty venue it was hard to get the crowd going. At this occasion it was
clear from the beginning that they wouldn’t have any problems with the audience
in Middelburg. Despite how small this pub was, the crowd seemed to be pleased at
the sheer violence by these guys from Vlissingen and Bergen Op Zoom, massive
headbanging and moshing was the result. The band played quite some stuff from
their latest demo (a review will appear as soon as possible on
Vampire-Magazine). Still their music can be described as a mixture between Pig
Destroyer, Rotten Sound and Bolt Thrower, which is still a very effective
cocktail of brutality. In the wait for Kutschurft they decided to play some
extra songs, though, they played all of their songs already, so we got a few
songs for the second time. Maybe a bit unnecessary, yet a nice filling of the
evening in our wait for the last band to show up, who in the end, didn’t. So a
rather disappointing, yet understandable, end of the evening. Later on the news
I heard that this was the worst case of heavy traffic ever in the Netherlands,
with over 800 kilometers of traffic jam, so, Cliteater and Kutschurft are
forgiven, see you next time!
VRIJBUITER FESTIVAL 2005, GOES, THE NETHERLANDS, 12-11-2005
WishYouWereDead. Marked as 'heavy
rock' this was the understatement of the evening, this was full blasting death
grind of a pretty decent quality. Mostly pounding in mid tempo with low but
grooving riffs and maniacal vocals. I already had my doubts with the 'heavy
rock'-label as soon as I saw three guys building up their gear wearing a Rotten
Sound, Bolt Thrower and Pig Destroyer shirt. Funny enough these are the bands
where they found themselves hanging in between. Having the deadly groove of Bolt
Thrower, the fast drums of (the latest) Rotten Sound and the insane vocals of
Pig Destroyer. This seemingly was a little too heavy for most of the audience,
for most of the people fled to the café-area of the venue. Still, I was really
able to enjoy this sheer violence. Though I would try to track down an
interested bassist to back up the grooves and to fill up the empty spots in the
music every now and then.
